Ciliates: Cyrtophores - Phascolodon (?)

Pictures presented are all of the same individual. I was unable to observe the cylinder of rods (nasse) that this organism possesses, so it could be Bursaria, which has a similar scoop-shaped form

Ciliates: Peritricha - Vorticella

A colony forming bell shaped protozoan that lives on contractile stalks. Although some of the specimens shown were not collected at Warnham, there were many to be found attached to plant fragments in samples I collected there in June/July 2003. Vorticella feeds by drawing food in currents created by beating cilia at the mouth of the "bell".

Unidentified peritrich

Objective: Watson x 10 parachromat
Ocular: Wild x 10 photo with extension/adapter
Rheinberg/COL illumination
Peritrich has non contractile branched stalks
